Physical Education (PE)
Physical Education (PE) extends far beyond fitness. Research demonstrates that quality PE programmes enhance cognitive function, emotional regulation, and social skills. In AES, our team of PE teachers believe movement is fundamental and essential to life, work and play. This means developing movement competence is an integral part of students’ holistic education, and all Assumptionknights can achieve their movement potential to lead productive and fulfilling lives beyond school.
PE Curriculum in AES
To facilitate meaningful and engaging lessons, our PE teachers use different pedagogical approaches to effectively meet students’ learning needs and desired 21st century competencies. The PE curriculum in AES covers three learning areas - Physical Activity, Outdoor Education (OE), Physical Health and Safety. Lessons are designed to develop the following in every Assumptionknight:
-
Movement competence and confidence to participate in a range of physical and outdoor activities.
-
Healthy lifestyle practices such as enjoyment in regular physical activities, demonstrating good personal hygiene, having a balanced diet and sufficient sleep.
-
Responsible decision-making and safety mindset in managing daily activities with respect to self, others and the environment.
National Physical Fitness Award (NAPFA)
Every year, our Secondary 2, 4 and 5 students go through the NAPFA assessment which aims to inform students of their overall health and fitness. In the lead up to the assessment, students will learn the various components of the test and understand how they can be used to evaluate the different components of their health-related fitness.
Preparing Students for Life
As students enter a rapidly changing world, we recognise the need to prepare our students for developing problem-solving skills, adaptability, collaboration, and resilience. We achieve them through a variety of events and activities such as Unstructured Play, friendly competitions, the Assumption Knight Challenge (AKC) and Outdoor Adventure Learning (OAL) Programmes.
